Chest: 62 cm (inches: 24½) Length: 32 cm (inches: 12½) Wool: a 4ply wool, 50 g = 210 meters, 100 g (3½ oz) col. A
and 15 g in col. B. 1 ball = 50 g - 210 meters (1¾ oz - yardage: 130 yds per oz) Needles:
No 3 mm and 3½ mm (UK 11 and 9)(US 3 and 4). Tension/gauge:
25 stocking sts using needles no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) = 10 cm (4 inches) Pattern I:
Row 1: knit 2, *purl 1, knit 5*. Repeat from * to * ending the row: purl 1, knit 2. Row 2 and all even numbered rows: purl. Row 3: knit.
Row 5: knit 5, *purl 1, knit 5*. Repeat from * to *. Row 6: purl. These 6 rows complete the pattern. Cable:
Row 1: purl 1, slip 2 sts on to a spare needle and drop to front of work,
knit
2 sts, knit sts on spare needle, purl 1.
Row 2 and all even numbered rows: purl to purl sts, knit to knit sts. Row 3 and 5: purl 1, knit 4, purl 1. Row 6: as row 2.
These 6 rows complete the pattern. Pattern II (moss st): Row 1: knit 1 , purl 1 alternately. Row 2: purl to knit, knit to purl.
These 2 rows complete the pattern. Edge sts: always knit. This stich is never part of the pattern but always included in the number of stiches on the row. Body: is worked vertically from side to side. Cast on 61 sts on needle no 4 mm (UK 8)(US 6) with col. A. The edge is to be a bit slack.
Continue the work using needles no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) and complete row 1 (back side of the work) as described:
knit 1 (st to the edge), knit 1, purl 4, knit 1,
purl 47 sts, knit 1, purl 4, knit 1, knit 1 (st to the edge). The next 2 rows: purl to purl sts, knit to knit sts. Next row: st to edge, cable pattern,
47 sts in pattern I, cable pattern, st to edge. Continue working the patterns to the measure of around 31 cm (12¼ inches)
(ending with row 2 in the cable pattern). Next
row: cast off 7 sts (these sts are to be included in the armhole) and work the remaining sts. Put aside the work on a spare needle and complete another
piece likewise.
With col. B and needles no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) pick up from the right side 54 sts along the edge of beginning of the 1st knitted piece.
Watch out not to pick up sts over the
cable which is part of the armhole. From the right side of the knit the pieces together and cast off at the same time. Close the pieces at the other side
in the same way.Back: pick up 80 sts from the right side with needles no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) and col. B. Work 1 row back in pattern II.
Change to col. A with 1 row in knit
and continue in pattern II. When armhole measures 12 cm cast off the centre 16 sts and complete each shoulder one at the time. Cast off at neck side
on every 2nd row 4 sts 2 times. At the same time as the 1st cast off cast off, for shoulder, from armhole side in 3 turns which are 8 sts 3 times. Complete
the other shoulder in the same way.Front: work as described for the back until armhole measures 7 cm (2¾ inches). Cast off the centre 8 sts and complete each shoulder one at
the time. Cast off at neck side, for shaping the neck line, on every 2nd row 4 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 4 times. At the same time when the armholes
measures same height as at the back cast off for shoulder as
described for the back. Complete the other shoulder in the same way.Make up: knit up around 60 sts at each armhole with col. A and needles no 3 mm (UK 11)(US 3) and work 5 rows in stocking sts. Cast off without tightening the
edge.
Join the right shoulder. Knit up aound 76 sts for the neck band - around 36 sts at the back neck and 40 sts at the front neck - with col. A and needles
no 3 mm. Knit stocking sts 5 rows and cast off without tightening the edge. Join the left shoulder and sew the band. Edge at the bottom of the garment: from the right side of the work knit up all way round 160 sts with col. A and needles no 3 mm (UK 11)(US 3).
Work 5 rows stocking sts and cast off without tightening the edge. Washing instructions: handwash in lukewarm water.
