Size: 1½ yrs Measurements of the garment:
Chest: ca. 60 cm ( 23½ in). Length: ca. 27,5 cm (10¾ in) Wool: a 4ply wool, 50 g = 210 meters, col. A and col. B, 50 g
(1¾ oz) each colour and 2 bits of col. C and D. Accessories: 3 buttons. Needles: no 3 and 3½ mm (UK 11 and 9)(US 3 and 4). Tension/gauge in stocking st:
25 sts on needles no 3½ mm = 10 cm (4 in) Pattern:
stocking st in stripes: 2 rows of each colour A and B, but 1 row in the colours C and D - according the photo. Border on body and sleeves, frontbands and collar: garter st. Edge sts: always knit all rows. Theese sts are never included in the pattern but always included in the number of sts on the row. Body: Work flat the back and the 2 front parts all in one work until armhole.
Cast on 138 sts on needles no 3 mm (UK 9)(US 3) with col. D. Change to col. A and knit garter st 12 rows ending with a back row. Change to needle
no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) and work the pattern starting with col. B. On the 1st row increase equally on the row 2 sts on each front pieces and 4 sts on the back.
Mark the sides with an odd coloured wool: 36 sts for each front and 74 sts for the back.
Knit stripes with col. C and D as shown on the photo.
When the work measures 15½ cm (6¼ in) cast off 3 sts on each side of the side marks for armholes and knit the back
and the 2 front parts each at the time.
Back: Cast off on every 2nd row at each side for 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times = 60 sts remain on the row.
Continue straight up until armhole measures 11 cm (4¼ in).
Next row: cast off the middle 26 sts and knit each shoulder one at the time. Next row: cast off at neck side for 2 sts 1 time. Knit another 2 rows.
Cast off remaining 15 sts for shoulder.
Knit the other shoulder likewise.Left front: cast off for armhole as described for the back but only at the left side. Continue straight up until armhole measures 6 cm (1½ in).
Cast off for neck at the right side on every 2nd row for 6 sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 1 st 5 times. When the armhole has reached the height as for the back,
cast off all the sts for shoulder. Right front: knit as for the left but in reverse.Left sleeve: cast on 30 sts on needles no 3 mm (UK 9)(US 3) with col. D.
Change to col. A and knit 8 rows garter sts ending with a back row.
Change to needle no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) and knit stocking sts: 2 rows col. B, 1 row col. C and 1 row col. D.
At the same time on the 1st row with col. B
increase 2 sts equally on the row. After col. D continue only with col. A.
Increase each side of the work for every 6th row until 56 sts on the row.
When the sleeve measures 24 cm (9½ in) cast off at both sides on
every 2nd row for 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 7 times, 3 sts 2 times. Cast off the remaining sts.
Knit the right sleeve likewise but exchange col. A with col. B and col. B with col. A.Make up, collar and front bands: Join the shoulders together. Knit up from the right side with col. A along the right front 50 sts using needle no 3 mm.
Knit garter sts 10 rows. Cast off without tightening the edge. Knit the left front band likewise but with col. B and make 3 button holes as shown
on the photo.
Collar: knit up from the right side on needles no 3 mm and col. A 20 sts along each of the front pieces and 36 along the back neck.
Knit garter sts. After 6 rows increase 1 st at each of the 4 &angles" = 4 sts more on the row. Repeat increasing on every 4th row. At the
same time after 14 rows cast off in the begining of every row 1 st (5 times at each side). After 24 row cast off the remaining sts
without tightening the edge. Sew in the sleeves.
