Needles: No 3 mm and 3½ mm (UK 11 and 9)(US 3 and 4).
Tension/gauge: 26 stocking sts using needles no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) = 10 cm (4 inches)
Pattern (ribbed pattern): 1st row: knit 3, purl 3 alternately. 2nd row and all following rows: work the sts as they appear - knit to knit, purl to purl.
Edge stitches: always knit. Theese stiches are never part of the pattern but always included in the number of stiches on the row.

Back: Cast on 113 - 125 - 137 - 149 sts on needles no 3 mm (UK 11)(US 3) with col. A and knit 1 row (back row). Now work the pattern between the edge sts. When work measures 2½ cm (1 in) change needles to no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) and continue in pattern. When the work measures 4 cm (1¾ in) decrease 1 st each side of the work by knitting together 2 sts in the beginning and in the end of the next row. Repeat decreasing for every 8 - 10 - 10 - 12 rows other 3 times = 105 - 113 - 129 - 141 sts.
When the work measures 16 - 17 - 17 - 18 cm (inches: 6¼ - 6¼ - 6¾ - 7) increase 1 st at both sides. Repeat increasing for every 6 - 6½ - 6½ - 6½ cm (inches; 2¼ - 2½ - 2½ - 2½) 3 times = 113 - 125 - 137 - 149 sts. When the work measures 37 - 37 - 39 - 39 cm (inches; 14⅕ - 14½ - 15½ - 15½) cast off 5 - 5 - 6 - 6 sts at both sides for armhole. Continue in pattern. Cast off each side, for shaping the armhole, on every 2nd row for 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 4 times = 85 - 97 - 107 - 119 sts.
Continue straight up until armhole measures 14 - 15 - 16 - 18 cm (5½ - 6 - 6½ - 7). Next row: put aside on a stitch-holder the middle 43 - 47 - 49 - 51 sts and finish the shoulders one at the time. Cast off at neck side on every 2nd row for 4 sts 1 time, 2 sts 3 - 3 - 4 - 4 times and 1 st 3 - 3 - 3 - 4 times. At the same time when the armhole measures 17 - 18 - 19½ - 22; cm (inches: 6¾ - 7 - 7¾ - 8¾) cast off for shoulder in 2 - 2 - 3 - 3 turns: 5 sts 2 times - 7 sts 2 times - 6 sts 3 times - 7 sts 3 times. Complete the other shoulder in the same way.
Front: Cast on as described for the back and knit 1 row. Knit pattern starting like this: 1 edge st, purl 3, knit 3 and so on. Continue as described for the back until armhole measures 5 - 5 - 6 - 7 cm (inches: 2 - 2 - 2¼ - 2¾). Put aside the centre 29 - 33 - 37 - 41 sts and complete each shoulder one at the time. Cast off at neck side on every 2nd row for 2 sts 2 - 2 - 3 - 3 times, 1 st 14 - 16 - 15 - 15 times. When the armhole has reached the height as for the back cast off the remaining sts for the shoulder as described for the back. Work the other shoulder likewise.


Sleeves, ¾ length: cast on 65 - 69 - 75 - 83 sts on needles no 3 mm (UK 11)(US 3) with col. A and knit 1 row. Next row (the right side of the work): Continue in pattern between the edge sts starting the row like this: size S: *k 3, p 3*, end the row knit 3. size M: knit 2, purl 3, *k 3, p 3*, repeat from * to * ending the row knit 2. size L: 1 edge st, knit 2, purl 3, *k 3, p 3*, repeat from * to * ending knit 2. size XL: 1 edge st, *k 3, p 3*, repeat from * to * ending the row knit 3.
When the work measures 2½ cm ( 1 inch) change needles to no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) and continue in pattern. At the same time increase 1 st each side. Repeat increasing for every 8 rows until 89 - 95 - 103 - 111 sts on the row. Join in nicely the increased sts in pattern. When the sleeve measures 29 - 29 - 30 - 30 cm (inches: 11¼ - 11¾ - 12 - 12) cast off, for shaping the sleeve top, at both sides on every 2nd row for 5 - 5 - 6 - 6 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 19 - 21 - 23 - 24 times, 2 sts 2 times, 3 sts 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 times. Cast off the remaining 17 - 19 - 21 - 21 sts. Work the other sleeve likewise.
Short sleeves: (could also be useful in wool) cast on 79 - 85 - 95 - 101 sts on needles no 3 mm (UK 11)(US 3) with col. B and knit 1 row. Next row (the right side of the work): Change to col. A and knit 1 row. Continue in pattern between the edge sts starting the row like this: size S: purl 2, *knit 3, purl 3*, repeat from * to * ending the row knit 3, purl 2. size M: 1 purl 1, *knit 3, purl 3*, repeat from * to * ending the row knit 3, purl 1. size L: purl 2, *knit 3, purl 3*, repeat from * to * ending the row knit 3, purl 2. size XL: purl 1, *knit 3, purl 3*, repeat from * to * ending the row knit 3, purl 1. All sizes: Continue the work knit to knit, purl to purl.
When the work measures 2½ cm ( 1 inch) change needles to no 3½ mm (UK 9)(US 4) and continue in pattern. At the same time increase 1 st at every side for every 8 rows until 87 - 93 - 103 - 111 sts. Join the increased sts in pattern. When the work measures 13 – 14 – 15 - 16 cm (inches: 5¼ - 5½ - 6 - 6½) cast off in both sides on every 2nd row for 5 - 5 - 6 - 6 sts 1 time and complete the sleeve as described for the ¾ long sleeve. Work the other sleeve likewise.
Make up and neckband: Join the right shoulder together. Knit up from the right side for neckband with col. B around 71 - 77 - 83 - 87 sts along the front neck and around 65 - 71 - 75 - 81 sts along the back neck using needle no 3 mm (UK 11)(US 3). Knit 1 row (the back side of the work). Then work stocking sts for 2½ cm ( 1 inch) for a rolling edge. Cast off without tightening the edge. Sew the other shoulder and the neck band, sew the side seams. Sew the sleeve seams and join in the sleeves.
